Hey guys,
Friend of mine wants to open a restaurant in Texas (Austin) and wants me to do the job. Anyone in Texas care to share the licensing requirements?
Do they have a reciprocal agreement to recognize my Florida license or would I have to start from the beginning to get one?
Debating on whether its worth it or not?
Thanks.
Mike

Mike,
In Dallas, fill out a form, give them $175 and you get a licence.
I bet it's the same in Austin.
Call the Austin building permit place, they'll tell you what you need.
Good luck.
Ed.
*Mike,You talking building new, or remodeling an existng building? Unless something new came along while I was asleep, Remodelers in Texas do not need a license. Builders might, but since I do not build, I don't keep up with that part of the program. Ed would know, so I will go with his word. Of course, the state has a classification number for each employer/company. My particular classification allows me to do a lot of stuff that regular contractors can't do. My limitations are mostly in the commercial field, but short of building a new house, I can do almost any kind of home repairs and remodeling without a license. Ed has excellent advice. Call the Austin permit office and ask them EXACTLY what you need. They are the ones that are gonna be inspecting and issuing the permits for this job.James DuHamel
*Ed and James, Thanks for the replies. I tried finding some info on the Austin web pages but no definitive answers. I guess a phone call is in order. Either way, from you two it doesn't sound all that complicated as here where I had to take a written test, wait for the results and then wait two months for my license to be processed! Mike
*Mike,Every city here in Texas has its own rules. Some don't even know what licensing is. Others will require a performance bond and give you 6 months to finish the job. Still others only want your money. Test? Only heard of that for licensed trades and then only in metro areas for the most part.Cliff.
