Light box techniques for vaulted peak

Hey Gang,
I’m working on a vaulted dormer that I want to put a light fixture at the peak. Obviously there’s not much space where the rafters meet the ridge. What’s code for something like that? Probably block out some kinds of box shape big enough to fit the light box. Anyone have a suggestion or technique for something like that? (Sheetrock ceiling to follow)

Start with the fixture you will install there.
That will inform clearance you need.
You can buy a box designed for this use.

Hey Mike, just wanted to say I went with the triangle wedge fixture from the link you sent above. It worked out. Thanks dude.
You are quite welcome.
Don't suppose you took any photos you would share.
Why of course! Thanks for your patience. :) Still need to figure out what light to buy though....soon enough...
Gentleman,
Thank you both for the suggestions. This is helpful.

In tight ridge conditions like that, a common solution is to install a 1/2" or 3/4" pancake junction box directly onto a framing block installed between the rafters, just below the ridge beam. Use framing lumber to create a recessed pocket if needed, ensuring proper nailing surfaces and structural integrity. Verify the box is rated for ceiling installation and complies with NEC Article 314. For lighting, low-profile LED fixtures with shallow back clearance are ideal for these confined spaces.
You can build a shallow box using 2x framing between rafters, then notch or recess it slightly below the ridge to clear code-required box depth. Just make sure it’s rated for ceiling fixtures and secured well before drywall.
