i’m thinking of using ultra-light mdf for some bookcases that
will be veneered. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? Does anyone have any experience with a specific material called TRUPON? Thanks.

I haven't used Trupan, but I recently did a series of tests on various MDF products, including a lightweight made by another manufacturer. I think it would be fine for casework, or non weight bearing backs, the surface is similar to other MDFs I tested. But it doesn't have much span strength - like for shelving - and the edge grain is less dense than the standard weight and twice ground materials. The manufacturer claimed the material density was the same, but the lightweight didn't perform as well in the screwed joint strengh test either. Just about what you'd expect.
