Calvin, I seem to recall you wanting to visit Montauk last year. I’ve been meaning to post these pics for awhile. The surfers are to the right of the lighthouse.
Think I’ll take a hiatus from here for awhile, the neighbourhood has changed somewhat. Enjoy your summer, best to Joyce.

Trust in God, but row away from the rocks.
Sweet. Did you ever see that lighthouse series on PBS? Was quite good. Different segment for each corner of the country.Cool flight you took the other day BTW.
Never caught the series, but I enjoy visiting them when I see 'em.
Jimmy Buffet's last novel was centered around the restoration of a lighthouse, pretty fun read.
My parent's and two sibling's ashes were spread off Point Bonito, north side of the Golden Gate. I suppose I'll join them someday.

Sweet.
When we lived there my Dad did some trading and swapping and negotiating and arranged for a private tour of that light house, and the Air force radar station.
I loved the Light house. Walls are six foot thick. If I recall correctly. I also remember that GW estimated that the soil would take two hundred years before it eroded back enough to be a problem. Pretty cool place.
What makes you think you are going anywhere? If you stay out of that political bs this place is still pretty darn cool.

Hey, such is life! Que sa freakin rah!
Only valid reason for leaving here is that you're showing signs of addiction (lack of sleep, affection the job / relationships, etc.)
We'll miss ya!

Here's my fave lighthouse pics, even though I've never seen the lighthouse as it is in France. The closeup with the guy in the door looking about to be engulfed has a full view pic but I couldn't find a jpg copy.
Both pics by Guichard:

Have those photos as a poster which shows three images - your post shows the first and last.
Middle image shows the keeper has figured out what is about to happen, he has turned in the doorway and you see only a bit of his jacket in the doorway - I suspect he is moving fast - probably happened before.
My guess is that the keeper grabbed the stair rail and hung on during the flooding - door did not get closed. Probably muttering something to the effect of " %$#^ *%@# photographers and their helicopters!"
Great shots in any event.
Jim
Never underestimate the value of a sharp pencil or good light.
aimless... are you sure that's in France ?

From http://www.lighthouseclothing.com/Press/articles.cfm?article=23 concerning this picture:
(WELLS – ME) For the first time ever in the United States, the famous French photographer, Jean Guichard, will be making a personal appearance to autograph his world famous lighthouse prints.
He is best known for his explosive “Wave†photograph of a lighthouse, off the coast of Brittany, France, showing a keeper at the door about to be engulfed by a titanic wave. The photograph is truly one of the most recognizable lighthouse photographs in the world. When first seeing the famous photograph, most people assume that the lighthouse keeper must have been killed.
In fact, the keepers had been living in fear of death during the 1989 storm and at one point had taken refuge in the lantern room of the tower. Waves the night before had smashed through the lower windows of the tower, causing the structure to flood, washing away everything in its path including the television, table, chairs, coffee maker and even the refrigerator. The keepers in fact were waiting to be rescued by helicopter.
As Jean Guichard’s helicopter approached the tower he was unaware that the keepers were waiting for a rescue helicopter. Guichard was simply there to take photographs of the waves pounding the structure. The keepers heard the sound of the helicopter and naturally assumed it was the rescue helicopter. One of the keepers opened the lower door of the structure and as he looked up at the helicopter and realized that it was not the rescue chopper, he also realized that a giant wave was about to engulf the tower. He immediately turned about and pulled the door closed behind him. Had he not done so at that second, he surely would have been killed. While all this was happening, Jean Guichard was busy taking photographs as fast as he could click the camera, thus capturing on film the most dramatic action shots ever taken at a lighthouse.
Here's a few............

Very cool. Thanks. When we toured it, there was only the Keeper and his wife. He was Coast guard I remember that. No museums or anything. It seems like there were a few other guys working there but I'm not sure.
