Attached is a quick diagram of a basement guest room.
I am ready to do the ceiling lighting…going to do recessed cans.
Looking for some advice on where to place them, and how many.
Some basics: room is about 15×15. Windows are on the North wall (not ideal, but too late to change that!) There are two, ~30″ wide by 48″ high casements, side by side. There are two switched receptacles on each wall, so plenty of lamp options.
Finally, the SW quadrant of the room has no options for cans, the joist bays being filled with ducts and pipes. The only exception…one could be put right over the doorway in the first bay, but that seems pretty close to the wall and might look weird.
So…what would you do?
Thanks for any and all advice….

ceiling height?
The finished surface will be at ~8' 10".
Wow! Nice basement ceiling height.
With that height, and since you have obstructions to placing recessed lights in the exact locations you want, I would use surface mounted lights. In all my rooms I put a ceiling fan in the middle and 4 surface mounted lights around the ceiling fan. I, of course, think it looks good and it lights well.
Just my two cents.

It's not impossible to run track lighting under those joist spaces filled with ducts and such ...
