I may be wrong, but I thought linseed attracted bugs.

Yeesh, that seems like a real waste. Put it on Craigslist.... someone oughta give you at least what it would be worth as heating oil.
If you do use it on the shingles (or for any other finishing purposes) don't forget that linseed oil in rags or papers causes spontaneous combustion. Use proper precautions!
For what it worth I have used double boiled linseed oil on the rough cut cedar siding on my cottage in Northern Ontario for over 20 years now and while it goldens or darkens the cedar depending on how heavy and often you apply it that cedar, which has been on the main part of the cottage for over 50 years, will long outlive me.
