Ready to install a non-weight bearing lintel on a brick veneer garage. As you can see in the picture there are no courses of bricks on top of it to tie it in. When I install the new siding, it will overlap onto the 2x nailing boards on the top the lintel.  Are the sides just packed with mortar? I will use type N mortar too.
