I’m going to build a fence and gate for the side of the house and want the gate to be secure. This is going to be for the family bicycles of the house. My wife and daughters are going to be using it so it needs to be easy and pretty failsafe.
I’ve seen gates to pools in apartment complexes where you use a key to throw a latch to enter and the gate swings shut and locked after you.
I picked up hardware today for everything except the lock. I can build the latch post and the gate with extra support so the tolerances can be tighter than a typical gate.
I could even put a member across the top above the gate to keep the latch post and the hinge post the same distance apart. Maybe tie the two post together at the bottom with concrete when I set the posts.
Where should I look for this hardware?

Any good exterior lock will work. If "they" can't reach the inside handle to turn it.
Try LeeValley for gate hardware ideas.
Maybe something like this?

Great minds think alike ;^) I found that exact lock last night and thought I posted it here. Maybe it was in my dreams.
It looks exactly like what i want. It says in the details that it uses a Kwikset key. I can make all the locks in the house Kwikset. Have to remember that.
We will be remodeling. The house needs it imo. And what else am I going to be doing in my spare time?
