This is a feature I’ve done a couple of times in story-and-a-half houses. Basically, the first floor room ceiling has a narrow, dramatic “slot” along a wall or alcove, up to a Velux FS056. This shaft is pierced at the attic level to give light (through a translucent panel) to an attic or loft. Here they light a loft area –
Down the red one is an arched niche that the head of a big bed sits in – look uop and see the stars.
Green one looks down into a guest bath –
Here with my favorite glass installed – Flutex
HVAC return on the left pulls from the bedroom
And more things – All three pieces of the window seat are made from a $22, 36″ luan door slab, ripped into three pieces, with 1-1/8″ filler strips glued and nailed into the hollow edges. Mullions are just the structural 2x4s; windows were cut down from some free old windows
The “chair”-shaped structure on the right is a safety cover for the pull down stairway (normal access is up a ship’s ladder). It’s also made from some hollow-core door bits, and is held down from the underside with a couple of screen door catches. It can’t be removed from up top; you just fold the ladder down from below, unsnap it, and slide it forward – it’s light ‘cuz it’s hollow.
