Traditional lime wash still has tons of useful applications.

Had to saw 4 foot off extended deck support logs (20 to 35 in dia) 20 years ago to stop rot from extending into the house. Still had some of my creosote and penta stockpile yet then, which stopped the rest.
#1, keep it dry (extend roof??), some past comments on subject for presently available chemicals have included borates, etc. There was a thread on this somewhere last year also, someone else may direct you there.
*jr - This is the best system that I have ever seen and used for wood repair where replacement is not an option.
