Couple walnut logs a friend gave me saturday. Sure were heavy, now I have to start building the bandsaw mill.

Yes, I'm sure they are Very heavy.
Before you hurt your back,or slip a disc, or suffer some other injurie moving them, you'd better let me come get them.
The gods of hydraulics are my friends, although I almost tipped the tractor over lifting the bigger log and the trailer fender is tweaked a bit. I have some oak logs to pick up this week.
Long as you have them on a trailer, why not bring 'em to a sawmill? Would be nice to get those into boards and stickered before the ends check.
That would be too easy. My friend that helped me move them has an old mill that has not been used in years. We could get that running but I have been looking for an excuse to build a bandmill.
Well, good luck. I've dabbled in this sort of thing for years and have about 400 bd ft of white oak stickered for almost 2 years and ready to be made into trim etc on my almost finished house.
Easier said than done, of course.
Your story sounds like mine
A scavenger after my after my own heart! I have a front yard full of logs just like those. Waiting for my sawmill guy to be available. Where in NY are you. If you get your mill built before he calls me back I could give you some business. I am in Wappingers. Got about 70' of 20 to 30" walnut to saw. Seal those ends asap but walnut will go quite a while without degrading.
Good luck with yours.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time"
I am in the Albany area, I still have a few more parts to acquire for the sawmill. Tonight I am going to pick up some oak logs. I create a lot of work for myself.
