My brother called me the other day and asked me about log siding for his cabin in Northern Wisconsin.
He is looking at what I assume would be 1/4 or 1/3 log siding, which overlaps slightly. The question he had is……..
1.) It is made of white pine, what will prevent it from deteriorating like a standard pine board outside? I told him that I would highly recommend Sikkens. I know it is not cheap but well worth it.
2.) How/with what do you treat the ends of this siding where they butt up against each other. Would you just caulk between them or do they need to be treated with something prior to installation?
Thanks.

I also like Sikkens. I stain both sides of the siding and also the ends. Prestain the backs and ends while installing, stain the outside after installing, caulk all joints.
