It has to do with how Google, et al, work. They rate a site higher if it's linked to from other related sites. So linking to http://www.chinesedrywall.com from here increases the "rating" of that site and makes it more likely to appear higher in a Google (or whatever other search engine) search.
And since Taunton has worked a deal to send posts directly to Google to be indexed, vs waiting for Google to "crawl" them, even if a link is only posted for 5 minutes before being pulled it still improves that site's rating.
