Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

But be advised that climbable railing systems (horizontal) are fast becoming code violations. Spose some of these companies have a verticle system you could find. Next spring I've got a customer that wants a stainless post/rail and glass system installed on his 2nd floor deck. They started out wishing a horizontal cable system. Best of luck.
*Bob, where in WNC are you? I'm Asheville.>But be advised that... are fast becoming code violations.calvin, I went through exactly same thought process as your customer. Only diff is that cable was a violation of spousal code--my wife wouldn't allow it! :) Because of the way our porch is built, used concrete posts, rather than stainless. Also, no rail--just the glass itself, and that was fine w/ inspector. It's worked out great in the year and a half it's been here.
*Glad to hear all went well. Don't forget to put me on that roving video so I can have a look. Thanks. Got a long time mason buddy by Burnsville. Know anyone up there?
*Sure coulda used his name about 2 years ago! That episode is now just memories. Don't know anyone over there, though.Video on it's way soon--got about nine names in chain and trying to arrange sequencing while respecting privacy and all that good stuff.
*Well, if you should ever need a good mason, you let me know. And don't worry about too much privacy, I got a long drive, they'll never find it. You gonna dupe that tape, need a donation? Lemme know. Thanks
*Cloud, have you and your family ever been over to Maggie Valley? DW and I try to spend 2 or 3 days there as often as we can.
*Just once, Tim. Friends dragged us to that decrepid (sp?) amusement park this summer. Sad, sad, sad. This area could sure use a modern amusement/water park. What do you most like about Maggie Valley? I don't know the hot spots.Jim
*We stay at the Smokey View Cottages, and use that as a base for going on over to Cherokee. The Indian Museum is one of our favorite places, as well as the outdoor area where you can walk through and see how things were done before the natives were pushed out of the area. There are several good places to eat, The Salty Dog is one that comes to mind first. It is a little bar and resturant on the main drag in Maggie Valley. Our main resson for going is the great views and the peaceful atmosphere of the area. We have not tried the amusement park.
*I own some raw land not to far from there. was camping on it and had a incredible rain storm. We bailed and went to Maggie Valley. Can't remember the motel we stayed at, but I sure remember the plastic bed sheet under the regular sheet. We ate at the salty dog. good food and the only resturant that I know of that uses dog dishes instead of regular bowls.Hey CloudHow close to Round Mtn. and Max Patch are you. Very close friends of mine live at the top.
*Isn't Max Patch on the AT? Friend had a hard time there this summer. Can't find either on my topo map this am. Probably an hour if they're where I think they are. Landmark nearest to me is Folk Art Center on Blue Ridge Parkway.Plastic bed sheet? Lovely.
*Check the back of July/August/September FHB for an ad for free catalog from a Cable Rail company. I got one and it's excellent.
*Bob,Try contacting Decorcable Innovations at http://www.decorcable.com. Very popular with fixture/trade show exhibit manufactures. I stopped in their Chicago sales office/showroom last summer while snooping around. Basically they sell braided S.S cable in many different configurations and polished S.S. hardware. Fax them a sketch of your project and they will return a quote with a detailed B.O.M. within a couple days. Good luck.
*System I have installed is CableRail from Feeney Wire Rope in Oakland, Ca. http://www.cablerail.com SS cable and unique hardware. -Ken
