I’m an avid reader of fine fine building and consider myself to be advanced DIY’er. Which to the professionals on this site probably means I know enough to be dangerous and/or get in the way. 🙂

I’m in the planning stages of a full house remodel and an addition of a master suite above our garage. I have already hired a licensed architect and will receive my bid packet and permit plans this week. I have already received all the exterior elevations and floor plans. So I’m at the point where I need to start talking to contractors before we submit any plans for permits and financing so that I can make any changes the contractor recommends.

I’m looking for contractors or recommendations for contractors in the Chicago south west suburbs or near by. The home is located in Lisle, IL 60532. The contractor will have to be familiar with bank draws and construction financing as I will be funding the project through a construction loan from my bank.

 As a DIY’er I would like to perform some of the work my self but I’m realistic on what I can get done in the time frame provided by the construction loan. Also I would not want to hold up the contractor and create delays. I want to take pride in the remodel of my house so a contractor that is willing to help me learn or let me work along side them is high on my priority list.

I figure that this is probably the best place to start to look for a contractor as the people on this site really take pride in creating beautiful homes and take pride in their work. Any recommendations or help you can provide would be very much appreciated
