HI! I’m an Architecht in Mexico, I have 12 years of experience mostly in construction, and have a very good lists of projects ( I’ve built a cryogenic tank, a pumping station for petroleum refinery, antenna arrays, remodeled Hotels, and so on, as you can see this are more engineering projects than architectural
I recently move to Coronado, Ca. and I’m undecided what to do, I’d like to start my own construction company again (I’m studying to get my contractors license) but don’t have any experience in the US. Maybe look for a job with a construction company but don’t know what type. I got a lot to offer to a prospective employer but I really don’t know what kind of job to ask for.
I welcome your input.

jaime,
the first question is do you own any tools & really know how to use them? Not to sound condesending but i've met to many architechts that had no real world experience.
The greatest exposure I received to different construction techniques (good & bad) was doing window & door service for a coup;e of different manufacturers. You might look into a similar venture

You're right Rob!! I've never seen any Architecht (includin myself) that were good at using the tools.
We might know how to use them, but we are not proficient at using them.
What I was hoping i can do is to use Subcontractors at the begining until I know enough people and the way to do things in California, I tought to publish in a newspaper an ad asking for subcontractor or handymans in order to build a database and start from there.
I own my tools and hopefully if I need more I'll buy them, (cross my fingers)
The other option is to get a job in a construction company already established, but I don't know what kind of job to ask for, I can supervise(never done in the US) or I can bid (the same thing), or I can run a construction company! any Ideas?
Thanks a lot for your advice.
Jaime
*Jamie what ya are looking for is a stain that in beds about a inch into the concrete, then ya want to seal it with a product called Jasco .You can brush it or roll it or even mop the stuff the more coats you add the more shine you get.If you put alot of coats on it ya need to add shark tooth to the sealer to add a nonskid surface to it.You get the stains in alot of diffrent colors and and it looks cool.Ive done alot or work putting top coats on drive ways and even made patterns of brick and stone with it.
