Looking for full-brick veneer advice.
I am planning a garage addition for my house, and I’d like to side it with full brick veneer. I’m pouring my own frost walls and I would thicken them to accomodate the brick. What is considered best practice for wall prep? I would frame and sheath as normal behind it. Is zip system a good option? How far apart for weep holes? How much of an air gap between brick and sheathing? Is there a special insulation or barrier product I should install between the sheathing and brick? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Chuck,
If you have to ask these types of questions then you need to hire a mason...
Lol. Yes Steve I know what you mean.
I’ve built and renovated many historic homes in upstate NY; all are either stone or brick foundation, all pine siding, dutch brick or brick federals. In the instances we’ve done dummy brick foundations we’ve just glued on those veneer bricks.
Well anyway I’ve never personally crossed paths with full-brick siding/veneer. I will be asking my various stonemasons but I like accessing a broader range of opinions.
I’m mainly interested in the cavity between the brick and the sheathing. 15lb felt seems the go-to, but is zip-system sufficient? Zip is waterproof for sure but in the almost-always-humid environment inside that cavity have others found those tape joints to handle constant contact with humidity? Maybe I’m overthinking it but I like to be thorough.
*Also I’m using antique brick, which is softer and way more porous than modern brick so I’d expect that changes the moisture-transmission landscape considerably. ?
