IMHO oak doesn't get as much credit as it should. I think, particularly with the graining of the pieces you have, it is every bit as attractive as the mahogany, cherry and other woods that are the darlings of the glossy paged house-beautiful magazines.
Call me a hick but I also think pine is another wood that gets little respect but that looks good. Neither wood is particularly high priced and in many locations both are local products.
IMHO all those white-on-white kitchens would look better with either of those choices done up in a light finish. That they look good longer than the melamine abortions and, once they wear or if the taste of the HO changes, they can be refinished and be good to go for another 60 years.
I think your 'scrap pile drawers' would compliment any house. Nice job. May your drawers never bind or bunch up.
Different Hardwoods goe in & out of favor...
Back in the late 80's I remember Oak was near impossible to get at one point.
and in 94-94 we wer doing a fed courthouse in Maine and using boatloads of QS White Oak and had to go as far as Ohio.
Cherry is getting used up now, just look at all the blond sapwood in cabs.
Natural cherry is $$$ cause you gotta pic thru or settle for white or stain.
Now you see more Hickory or Alder
Me I love Craftsman and Shaker stylings so QS WO or cherry or painted.
to me clear pine is a big waste of $$$
If it gets stained then I would rather see some figure.
if it will be painted then Poplar or soft maple or anything less expensive even FJPP is alot better!!
But wadda I know???
