Anyone had any experience with low back injections in the vertebral facets? What was the experience like? I am doing it without any sedative so I can go back to work. I have minor back problems in the L5 area. I don’t have problems making it to work; actually work makes me feel better. But making it to my golf tee time is unreliable. I want to fix that. GW

My wife had done it maybe 4 sets of three shots in last 10 years.
procedure is about 1 hour - mostly inprocess and then waiting at the end to get feeling back in the leg.
why not do it on a friday PM?
they tell her not to drive for 24 hours but she does usually after 3 or 4 hours.
they give you a small injection, then the shot. i think here they now give the shots with you sitting up or standing up - suppossed to work better than laying on yourside.
she had gotten good results from it.
sometimes only one shot will do it.
sometimes get the other two 2 or 3 weeks apart.
whole procedure itself seems fairly painfree and has worked for her sometimes for 1 1/2 years. watch what you lift and how you lift it tho to revent a recurrence. gardening (weed pulling) and bike riding make her back worst. Hope yours gets better

twice
Warm wet sensation.
But if this is a convenience thing, avoid it. There can be side effects.
If you ever need surgery, to many injectins first will leave enough scar tissue to make surgical repairs harder to do successfully.
I get nearly as much relief from Pilates excercising or physical therapy as from the injections
Excellence is its own reward!
The weeding does seem to kick it up. Yoga seemed to make it worse. The forward stretches pulling on the lower back seem to make it worse. I am working on core exercises for the abbs. This doctor says that he has the possibility of burning the nerve that goes to this lower disk if the injections work. But the nerve can grow back together over time. No nueroma or nueralgias can come from that type of therapy. GW
greg - i'm a veteran of two back surgery's , there is a procedure called -I.D.E.T.-. with a catherter, and heating a wire that shaves the disk. that will relieve the pressure of the nerve it's an over night procedure. this a new and less invasive procedure. BUT, start with a sports physical therapists, yoga, accupuncture. before any procedure, start with the sports therapist a good one. with a good referral list. any questions dont hesitate... stay well . bear"expectations are premeditated resentments"
My I suggest/recommend a anesthesiologist(sp?) in the Temecula area? His name is Dr. Paul Phellps and he works out of Golden West Pain Clinic and Rancho Spings Med.center and Inland Valley Med center, and I believe Fallbrook. My wif and I have used him more than a few times She had a cesarian and a hernia repair and I have had 3 surgeries(I think) with him. What a warm hearted person and very competent. Many doctors speak highly of him and all the nurses in recovery do too. easiest to get a hold of him through the pain clinic(in Murrieta) The pain clinic will try to get you to go through them, but he does work with the local hospitals.
now as to the injections, they worked for me but I also did have adverse reactions. They call it "steroid psychosis" or EXTREME hallucinations for a day. These injections can also act as an indicator as to whether other treatments will work( as in surgery, for one example)
I can also recommend a Neuro surgeon? He also is great, and cutting is not his first option ;~)
Had my MRI on Thursday, and my facet injection today. An IV was started at my wrist, Versed was injected, ( a memory loss drug), and the doctor injected each side of the bottom facet. The MRI showed nothing unusual for my age (51) other than some mild pre-arthritis growths on the bottom facet. 7 hours later and I feel fine. Looking forward to 18 holes soon. GW
