What are the options for roofing materials for a low pitch roof (1.5 over12)? Of course the material needs to be attractive and low-cost. I did a search of this site without much luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Call a shingle company. I did a fairly flat roof a while back, and the inspector said as long as the shingle company was happy....so was he. I had a 2/12....and had to ice guard the entire deck, then felt, the could apply dimensional shingles. Thought they'd want me to hand seal each shingle, but they didn't require it....three tab may be different.
The biggest concern this raised was a definite need for adequate ventilation. I was able to fit in soffit vents, and used a ridge vent cut in half to make the shed roof tie-in work.
It's been about two yrs now, and no leaks yet. And on that side of the house, not much sun....the snow sits. Half of the roof is over their kitchen, and the other half is over their deck. The two area are seperated and sealed......except for the soffit and ridge areas. I built it hoping some warm air from the heated side would drift over and help keep the ridge free of snow.
Don't know if I just got lucky.....but the shingle company, inspector and home owners were all happy! I can't remember if they'd let me down down past 2/12. Make a few calls, my roofing supplier was the one that said to ask about the full deck membrane.
Any chance on raising the pitch. I brought the roof in question up.....another contractor said it wasn't possible........I just notched the flashing, and ran counter flashing under the window lintels, No big deal. Jeff
*You should look into a Modified Torch down roofing system. You can get it in a few colors. I would not suggest the full deck with Ice/ Water. It will cost more and not be as good of a job. How long are the rafter's on this section of roof?
*Ron, would EPDM fully adhered work as well as torchdown in this situation? Mike
*Ah...shingle on a 1.5/12? Get real while I repaint my nails. I know you know better.
