I’m looking for a ceiling fan with light for my son’s bedroom. The room is only 9 x 11, with a 7 1/2 foot ceiling. In searching manufacturer’s sites, I’m having trouble finding many truly low profile fans. While I would like the blades as high as possible, or with as little clearance from the ceiling as possible, I understand there must be some space above the blades. In addition, the lights on the bottom of the fans generally seem to extend well below the fan.
Anyone know of any really low profile fans out there, or which are the lowest profile available? Thanks.

called ceiling huggers available most anywhere in different lengths of blades different light combinations.
i find huggers are getting rare around here unless u want something styled in early 1980s. for a few customers i have recessed the ceiling fans down rod and electrical box into the attic. then it can be tucked up so the blades are about 8 inches from the ceiling. probably less if you wanted to.

cheers. Ill buy.
I'd say that the room is too short (ceiling too low) for a ceiling fan.
How about a fan mounted on a wall bracket? Put it in the far corner of the room, where there'll be no one moving about. A high quality fan, with three or four speeds, will move air quietly, and give you the comfort factor that a ceiling fan would.

a fan in the corner of the room??? come on.. man you dont want to do that
On the contrary--there's nothing wrong with going retro if it suits your style and needs.
Before residential air conditioning was common, there were ceiling fans and floor fans and even fans mounted on the wall. And there are some residential-style ones available still:

This certainly isn't right for every space, but for a kids room with a low ceiling, and no room for a floor fan or table fan--it might be just the ticket.

We put a Minka Aire fan in our 8-foot-high kitchen. Total height of fan is 10.5 inches from ceiling. It's 44 inches wide. 100-watt light in center, also comes with plain center. It was expensive (about $300) but runs really well. It looks like an airplane propeller, so your son might like it. Hope this helps.
I'm with Wordsmith, we too put a Minka in our living room with 7 1/2 foot ceilings with no problem. It also has a low profile integrated100w light fixture. We we sticker shocked with local prices so searched online and saved $100+ with no problems.
