Lowes is good for some things

ponytl | Posted in General Discussion on August 23, 2008 03:31am

when they put something on clearance they mean to sell it…

I filled the subaru up with light fixtures the other night @ more than 90% off… $69 fixtures for $5ea    $29 ones for $1  I had the Lowes dude climb’n the top racks toss’n down every dust covered box…

think i spent $123  and had the subaru’s seats folded down there wasn’t a window other than the windshied and drivers side that i could see out of…

weird that whats on clearance at one lowes isn’t at the other… (once unloaded i went hunting @ other lowes) which is bad for them if one wanted to return whats purchased at one store to another…

oh yeah that gate/fence hardware for the PVC fence they sell it was marked 90% off also… I had zero need (which in no reason not to buy it) so i only picked up a few hinges and latches… they rang up 1 cent ea.  so now i have the full inventory they once had… and the little glazed trim tile 1/2″ x 6″ reg $1.28  marked down to 6cents each…

yes i know it’s a sickness… but it’s my drug

    You are too funny!

Do you have all this stuff accessible and organized or does it get buried for decades?

    1. ponytl | Aug 23, 2008 04:55pm | #6

i pretty much know where everything is i sold a shopping center this summer where i had 6000sf of personal storage set up on pallet racks 16ft tall with 2 forklifts... I had to move/weed through and  combine this with my 30k warehouse thats across the street from my condo project... this forced me to pallet rack this warehouse and add a ton of lights... this warehouse was full of rest&bar equipment which i've been selling off which is a good thing... i do find stuff i didn't know i had at times... or i know i have something just not sure where or how many...  but weird thing is... i always know where i got something and how much i paid... i guess it's that thrill of finding something that makes it's mark in my mind...

they closed my local habitat resell store... like many things in memphis the employee pool thought they owned vs work'n at it so it was a lose'n deal...  but it was very good to me over time... but i'll miss it

really cool to need something and have it... i have 10s of thousands of feet moulding racked so lets me be creative on trim... little  stuff like caulk... we are use'n 20-30 tubes a day right now... and i have pallets full... door units and slabs... i have maybe 500+ new doors ....  i can walk across the street when i need something vs going to a supply house and spending $500...

long term does it make economic sense?  I'm not really sure... I'm think'n in my case yes... the Warehouse is an investment property the (only non income producing one i have ) might be my next project...who knows... i do have 5 building lots next to the loft project so whatever i don't use now i still have a place to use it...

the main thing is i have fun... how do u price that?

I bought a couple buffing compounds for .07, were 3.99. Got a 5 gallon bucket opener for .02. Only got half off a new porch light though.

Oh, don't beat yourself up over it. Maybe you can pick up some kitchen sinks for a buck or so. I get a rush out of buying crazy markdowns too.

Just think of the auction when you die!  Man, your wife will have fun!!!

I bought all the power planer blades they had.  Only to discover that my younger brother had permanently "borrowed", my power planer.

So, then I had to go buy a new planer to go with the blades, so it wasn't really a bargain.  I did save money on his Christmass present though:  I wrapped the empty box from my new one, and gave it to him.

You want to double your money on those little tiles?

Only thing better than finding a great deal on something is finding a great deal on something you need at the time.

    it's a sickness

Nah, you and rez got it wrong, it is called being at the top of the roadkill food chain<G>

Years ago first post here was answered by Gabe (who I have not seen here for awhile, still in Bermuda?) and he accused me of being so cheap I ate roadkill.  Well, so, took that as a compliment, better than the coyotes getting it?
