Lowes kitchen install part 2

DanT | Posted in Business on October 9, 2004 03:09am

The day after posting here I was at the local Lowes and saw the cabinet sales guy and he asked if I was going to give them a shot.  I said no thanks the numbers were too tight blah blah blah blah.

He asked me to try a couple.  So I went in and talked with installed sales folks.  They gave me a pre app and told me I had to have 300k in liability insurance, lot less than I was told earlier.  I carry a million so no issue there.

They then gave me phone numbers for their regional guy.  Said he is busy and has 17 stores but to leave him a message.  I call, get him first try.  He says he will be at a store an hour and a half away from me on Friday can I come down.  I drag a little and ask if he could just mail me that app.  He says he needs to meet me too.  I say ok.  Not a lot going on so I can make it.  He says to call at 7:30 before I leave to make sure he didn’t have anything come up.

I call.  Get voice mail.  An hour later I call.  Get him.  He says he’s coming to my local store after all so hang tight and call him about 11:30 and we’ll get together.  I find some little crap to do, I am not a good waiter.

I call at 11:30 and get voice mail.  I call at 11:45, he says “hey I’m comin your way, I got a manager on the phone right now can I call you back in a minute”.  I say sure.  I wait.

At 2PM I call him.  He answers.  Goes like this:

Me:  Mr.******** I think I will pass on this deal, I don’t think our two companies have the same business philosophies.

Him:  Ummm, what do you mean, I meant to call you ummm.

Me: I appreciate your time but I feel as though I just spent the day being jerked around and I don’t do business that way.

Him: Well you need to understand I have a big program rolling out Monday with 10 special displays and I am really involved here.

Me:  A phone call would have done it.

Him: Ummm, well yeah, but I have this big deal going on and I was trying to get there ummm you just need to understand.

Me: I understand that I do remodeling for a living, am a businessman and my time is valuble.  I also understand that your issues shouldn’t preclude you from treating me with some professional courtessy.  So thanks for the oppurtunity but think I will pass.

Him:Ummm, can I fax this app up to you?  You could fill it out and fax it back and we could get together next week.

Me: I have a job starting next week, I’m busy but you can fax it to me if you want.

Him:  I’m sorry it got screwed up, ummmm.

Me: Thats ok, better to know now how things are.   Thanks, bye.

Him: Ummm ok well I’ll get that to you.  Bye.

Anytime you wonder about service issues at these places I can now tell you what the issue is.  It starts at the top.  DanT

Send the guy a bill for a day spent waiting for him.

You wanted the papers sent, HE said no cos he wanted to meet you, then stuffs you around. Whatever he has going on isnt your problem.

Bill the fool and be pleased you didnt get further into it.

I installed a top of the line shower last year. Happened to meet the rep and the big wheel from up north. Both said they were desperately looking for installers, things were soooo busy they had trouble meeting demand etc etc

I was just starting up on my own, needed work, said I was available. Sent the rep a bunch of my cards, spoke to him on the phone later, and.....................nothing.

Never got a call, not one job, zip. All hot air like most. Better doing my own thing now and not being dangled by eedgits.

Everything, 100% of it, depends on how you look at it.

As I said in a previous thread I worked in a corporate enviroment in the past so I figured what was going on.  Running his butt off to set this deal up an figured "oh hell he will wait he needs the work".

Those guys just get to where they think the sun rises and sets in their own azz.  They have 17 stores of folks telling them how great they are and how right they are all the while a boss asking why aren't they working harder.  Seen it before.

My thought was that if I had an issue along the way wonder how available he would be then?  Bet I know.  DanT

In the very very early stages of HD I got a call from them asking if I'd be interested in installing kitchens for them.

    I said sure.

They said to meet them at the newest HD near me.

I said, nope, you meet me at my house and see my work.

    They did and.....

When I found out what they were paying I laughed myself silly.

Another thing was I couldnt get any leads off of the jobs I'd do for them so why bother.

the funniest part was.....they told me that my work was absolutly exquisite.

They told me I'd have to take a pee test monthly to be sure I dont do drugs.

I told them that I smoke the evil weed on occasion.

They told me that my work was exquisite but that they dont do biz with druggies......

Too funny.....wonder how many Jacks they drink at night.
