I am going to build a house near the ocean and am considering using LPs “Smart Panel” siding. The coastal conditions include fog, salt, and high winds with rain. Anyone have experience with this product?
Would certainly appreciate any feedback beore I put it up!
Thanks , David

Frankly. I've become gun-shy of LP's siding products since the big class action suit, also based on the failures I've seen in the field. LP or anyone else has not convinced me to use it. Wet or coastal climate is particularly exclusive of this type (manufactured) of siding, IMHO. The new ('Smart') version has only been out a few years, and I have yet to see any track record. If it were me, I would go with the proven performance of fiber cement siding, esp. in your climate. Hands down. Sorry, LP is not the 'smart' choice in my book.
Hopefully, someone here has some insight or performance data pertaining to the new LP product.

One day, when I am very very old, there will be a documentary on cable about LP and how they are a case study of a company that could screw up every single product they ever made and continued to thrive and grow in the market. It will also be a testiment to the stupidity of the consumer to keep buying from a company with a proven poor track record.
No, I would not use their siding, or their OSB or their windows. But that's just me. I learn from my mistakes. Insane is when you do the same thing over and over, and expect different results.
Do you like casinos? The thrill of awaiting the roll of the dice? The rush of excitment when you're ahead? The surge of self-flagelation when you total up and realize how far behind you are?
If yes to the above .....
LP siding has been discussed here several times - try a search to get more info.
