Hi all, question regarding rafter to ledger connection for a low slope roof addition:
A few pertinent details:
*9.5 x 1.75 LVL rafters, 16OC
*1/12 pitch
*ledger of the the same size
*hangers will be Simpson HU9
Originally I was planning to purchase custom hangers with the seat sloped ~5deg for the rafters. Given the pricing for custom hangers I’m inclined to stick with the standard 90deg hangers. Are there any code issues or other concerns with making a shallow seat cut so that that rafter sits properly on a 90deg hanger (2.5″ bearing)? I’m not concerned with the loads as it’ll be less than a 1/4″ cut on the thick end. Similar to the attached pic, but less deep?
Thanks in advance.

Whenever I’ve done this, I just set the rafter in the hanger. No cut at all.
Thanks for the response Mike, appreciate the input. I'm sure your right that I could get away without a seat cut for the hangers.
I may put a flat on there just to prevent any point loading, and so that I don't create moment force on the hanger. I'm thinking it'll likely help with finishing the ceiling below since the hanger bumps will be diminished.
You should be able to check with the LVL supplier for specifics, but should be ok if the notch max depth is 1/10 or less of the height of the LVL.
