My job is stalled between sitework and foundation building while my concrete guy catches up with others. My friend Jack bought some white oak, quartersawn, and I designed and built him a desk/worktable. Here it is, partially completed. Top is 1-3/8 x 30 x 96, and will have an array of butterfly inlays at the board joints. Legs are 2-3/4 x 2-3/4, quartersawn faces all four sides, put together with lock miter corners.

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

Looks very cool Micro.
Beautiful, wish you were local.
Way too cool. Sometimes the only way you can tell who your true friends are is when you're moving or building something. Those friends that pitch in and lend a hand show what true friendship is all about. By doing this table for your buddy you must qualify as a true friend. You're owed more than a six pack and burgers for this project!
How are you'all going to finish it out?

Jack is having the guy that does his house painting do it. The guy has an HVLP rig, and is very good at furniture, having done a lot of antique restoration. It will be clearcoat poly. If it were me, I would use a stain to give it a fumed color, and then brush on a couple coats of Waterlox satin tung oil finish.
Very nice. Interesting design. I like it a lot.
I'd at least give it a coat of natural stain to kick the rays out.Ditch
Very nice
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professionals build the Titanic.
Nice work...
Nice design!
Mind if I show the pics to my cabinetmaker to see if he can make me one like it?

Would you like a set of prints?
Are there prints? Did you draw it up yourself, or was it a design you bought?
Let me show the images to my cabinet guy first, so he can size it up. Then if all is a 'go', yes, I would really like a set of prints.

OOps. Just re-read the original post.
I see you designed it yourself. Awesome job!
Please update us with more pictures once it is finished.
I'll let you know about maybe getting some prints shortly.

Just let in all 22 bowtie inlays, yesterday, so the top is finished, at least my part. I have it down so I can complete one inlay in ten minutes, and each with a hairline fit. Jack will finish sand and have his painter stain and finish. Should be done by next weekend, so I will post a couple of as-finished pics.
Nice. I could use one of those.
Jack's painting sub stained it and put a couple coats of clear. The hardware is yet to be mounted.
The closeup shows one of the top corners, and exhibits some butterfly inlay work. All hairline joints, no filler. There is a slightly oversized accent inlay on each end of the top that I wanted to do in rosewood, but it kept breaking bits, so I used cherry. All the rest are in the QS white oak used for everything, including the drawer boxes.
