I was comissioned to build and install a pair of french doors to enclose a shower and tub enclosure in a recently remodeled old victorian farm house. The framing and door jambs were installed by the remodeling contractor. When I begun to hang the doors I found the right jamb out of plumb by nearly a 1/4″ from about 2 ft above the bottom to the bottom of the jamb. This is against an outside wall, which is covered with bead board. I tried to shim it out at the bottom thinking the base plate of the wall would push the jamb back in line. Apparently there’s no base plate, because the wall moved instead of the jamb.
The only solution I can come up with is to build out the jamb where its plumb down to the bottom as there’s nothing substantial enough to shim it out.
The right door of this pair will be hinged, but only opened when maintenance is needed on the plumbing.
I would appreciate any and all suggestions.
Thank you.

Could you toe-screw the bottom of the wall to the floor to secure it? Go at it from both sides being careful to keep it plumb. If I'm understanding you right about the problem.

Thanks for your suggestion Calvin. I forgot to mention in my message that the floor is ceramic tile and I wouldn't be able to use screws through it.
I appreciate your reply though.

I'd try Calvin's idea first, it's probably all you need. Alternately, if there's a threshhold for you to hide it under, a Simpson clip might also do the trick.
In case that doesn't work, do you have enough room in the R-O for some light (1/6" or 1/8"} steel angle? I've used angle iron in the past to beef up door installations where the framing is shaky, it works well.
Gary Katz has a good discussion of this in hid Doorhanger's Handbook.

I would have enough room for a narrow piece of steel angle. I'll look into that when I get back on the job Monday.
Thank you Dave for the suggestion.
