Getting ready to start but am unsure of a few things. I’ve attached a photo of what I plan to do. This is a room that was built on the back of the garage for bird raising. It was built on grade with 2″ styro insulation down the insides of the foundation walls. I’m in Canada with very cold winter’s. Foundation walls 48″ deep. Room has slab floor which slopes from side walls to center trough for draining water when cleaning (used to store 3000 birds).
I plan to build joists on top of 2×4 P.T.(on end) sleepers and insulate the slab floor. I will treat the almost 2″ of air space under the joist as a conditioned crawlspace. i.e. I will heat/cool below and above joists also include cold air return above joists.
Questions.1-Should there be a vapour barrier under styrofoam on slab (there is no poly under slab)? 2-Will 6″ slab hold weight of the room on the two 2×4 sleepers at either end of room? 3- Should I insulate between joists as well as on slab ( keeping batt insulation off floor)? 4- Am I out to lunch?
Thanks, any help is appreciated.
