anyone out there made their own mosaic tile/marble?
I saw 1×1(some even smaller) mosaic marble attached to a mesh backing at a supplier. $$$$$
I thought of making the item. I have a large roll of mesh someone used for plaster, similiar to the drywallmesh joint tape. If I could bond this to the backside of a marble tile, push the tile thru the saw in a crosshatch pattern, (cut all the way thru the tile but not the backing), I can have this stuff for $5 sf compared to $30 sf. Also, I can have it NOW instead of 2 weeks .
I thought of using contact cement but I’m not sure of the bond.
Anyone done this before?

There was a discussion about this a month or few ago, good luck finding it.
I know I've seen a book that demonstrated this somewhere but also can't remember the name.
Helpful hunh??
I'm guessing it is possible and the information is out there.
Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, Professionals built the Titanic.
I would think that you would want to cut the tiles first then attach to the mesh that way it would be in a random grain pattern .
Most of the do-it-yourself mosaics that I have seen used irregular ceramic pieces from just breaking up the tile rather than cutting it, sort of like on the following website:

I guess it depends whether you like a little anarchy in your life or if your a follow-the-lines kinda person.
