making sub woofers for home theatre room
I posted shots of a 4′ sub woofer with 2 18″ drivers last fall. My son is at it again, or rather I’M at it again. We are still using 2 18″ drivers, but we are building 2 smaller ones that are easier to move. The big one was 400 + lbs!! This one only used one sheet of MDF and the driver is around 50 lbs. Here it is clamped and unclamped before we put the drivers in….
It will get finished out with prefinished 1/4″ maple ply and a face front treated with high gloss black lacquer. About all I will have to do is figure out how to put the walls back together that his volume is shaking apart!!! Gotta love it.
I don’t know if the size of the files are small enough, … pls let me know if I need to make them smaller. I am not very good with the shrinking process.

What size holesaw did you use for that opening?
In my cabinet shop I used to get 80 bucks a pop for speaker boxes like that. I would do one like that in 30 mins.
Yeah, once the pieces are cut, it goes together pretty quickly. $80 bucks unfinished is an acceptable price, I would think. But once they are finished, it goes a lot higher!!!"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program" -Ronald Reagan
Yep... Most of my clients were kids with auto systems and they wanted to carpet them themselves. If I were young I think I would invest in hearing aid companies for long term investments. <G>
no hole saw...I have a baseplate for my router that gets me to within 1/16 of what I need. That is plenty of tolerance for an 18 1/2 " driver."The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a governmental program" -Ronald Reagan
Cool!
Here's four 15s (individually 6" ported compartments) and some really big amps in my old Volvo wagon -

Alright you audiophiles a little help here.
I was just given two Macintosh xr7 speakers.
the 8" cones are shot on both of them, can I fix them?
or should I take it to a shop?
oh yeah how much does this cost?
Hey - don't go to the shop!
Get online and get a "rerubbering" kit - it may be all you need. I fixed some free destroyed Boston Acoustics (bookshelves), and they're good as new - maybe $20 for the rings and glue for both of them.

I think that is all I need.
The cones look fine.
Any links on how it's done?
Man these are nice speakers!http://audioclassics.com/detail.php3?detail=XR7&nav=cat
Can't find the company I used, but it was like this -
