Makita 10.8 volt driver and impact set
Just an update.. I bought this set about 1 month ago.
I think they are great! Good enough power that I don’t have to reach for my 18v for most apps. In particular, the impact can really push a screw when needed. Driver has 2 speeds and a 18 position clutch. Nice bright LED light that is aimed well and stays on for 2-3 seconds after trigger is let go…. sweet detail.
Batteries charge quickly and last a decent amount of time. Either driver or impact fits in tool belt pocket. And the case is real nice… metal, padded, fits everything you need plus a set of hex bits (chuck is hex only).
BORG has them on sale right now for $129… got a coupon? Final price is $117 + tax.
Well worth it. In fact, JLC just did a test and the Makita came out tied for first.
hurry though… I think that’s a clearance price.

Thanks for the testimonial. I've been eyeing that kit.
Wonder why they are closing them out, poor sales or something else (improved) coming down the pike?
Another site said they have a newer kit coming...Supposedly it's the hottest selling category in tools... so that makes sense. My HD had three left as of this morning.
Ha! I'd jumped on the minidrivers when they first came out and got the Bosch.
I see the JLC article had both Bosch new and improved versions over the first 'pocket driver' as coming in last place.
Sometimes one needs to learn to always wait for the new tool arrivals to level off a while before diving in.

Keep my handy as a second around the house when everythings at a site. It will screw a screw somewhat but that's about it. I liken it to a 12volt Panasonic crapper I bought once. Talk about idle.
Did manage to cop a Bosch 18v Brute last in stock demo get the case down off the high shelf kinda deal and am a happy camper there.
Not just cause of the giveaway price of the thing but it's got balls and is Swiss made so I'm taking care of that sugar.

All the smoke leaked outta the DW 18V Hammerdrill, so I'm waiting and watching for a new NANO 18v hammerdrill/impact package. Got so much other 18V DWs that need to be battery-ized, I can''t yet justify switching everything over to Makita.
That is the ultimate plan tho'.
I saw them lil Makita's at HD last week..thought about it REAL hard..but that 10V Bosch made me gunshy..then I read in JLC and here how good they are...damm..But I STILL need a hammer drill then...oh, the choices, the choices.

I bought the nano impact & hammerdrill about 2 months ago and I am very happy.
The impact driver is a big improvement over the last generation and the batteries definately lighter which really makes a difference.

They had it at HD last week, but it wasn't on any special price..it was 399.00 IIRC, and that was more than I was looking to drop. I saw the non-nano at 199.00 and had it in the buggy, but aborted when I did the long term use I have planned.
If I can't get over to Nano at a decent price, I'll probably just bail out and go Makita. I went DW for the sheetmetal shears, and my coworker had DW..and i had a gift cert to Lowes. Now, I do a lot less copper, and split from the coworker ( who has since gone w/Makita anyway) and really don't HAVE to stay with DW, like I felt I did before. I can use Turbo-shears in any drill, and recently have.
I may just keep a few of the DW and just change over my impacts and drills to Makita. I still have to set up two chargers as it now, being as I still use non Li-ion Makita for my impact, and 3/8th drill.
Till I know better about future work, I'll hold and keep my eyes open for a good deal, I guess. I use a Hitachi and Mak, and (GASP) a 18v B&D in the shop..drag in the DW as needed. I TRY to have everything I need in both places, nuthing like going out in the dark and rooting through the "sharps" of scrap copper, looking for a tool needed in the late night shop..or headed to a job 60 miles away, and realize I left something in the shop..so when I can, I have duplictes and triplicates of most affordable tools.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

It was on sale for 299$ and I used a coupon and sold my old impact and H.drill for 75$ to offset cost.
If you decide to get out of the DW system let me know and I would be interested in buying.I have not gotten the shears yet and would like to add it to my collection.
Now let me tell you about a Dewalt saved my a.. story.
I was taking a load of materials on my utility trailer when the entire tread peeled off a tire and caught the fender and bent it back into the tire,(the tire was still holding air). I pulled onto the soft shoulder and tried to think what to do. I tried to cut it with the recip but no luck, then I thought of the metal cutting circle saw that I got free with a mailin rebate. That saw cut thru the the entire fender on one battery and let me bend the fender back to clear the tire.
I then drove to a tire store and got 2 tires that I had benn putting off for way to long.
None of the other 18 volt systems have as many tools or are offered as cost leader packages like the dewalt have been over the years.
Between the nailguns, impact drivers, grinders, cutout, saws, and others I have not seen another system come close.
I carry all the Dewalt 18 volt in the truck ,so no matter what I have at least one set of complete tools with me.

LOL.Nope, I'll be hanging on to the swivel head shears and the cut off/grinder. I just know that if I let loose of them two, a sweet metal job will pop up.
Hey maybe Murphy's Law could work to my advantage here...dump the tools and wait for the call?
If I had caught that deal you found in time, I'd a pulled the trigger I have 3 impacts but one 12V and 2 14.4..an 18 that runs all day ( I drill as much as drive, with hex shanks) on one batt. would be sweet.
Another MAJOR thing I am finding about all my air/cordess tools,,,no belt hook, I probably don't want it. I'm hooked on slapping what ever was in my hand last, on to my side. Building some vents now, curved barrel type, bent plywood cover..fighting the spring and holding an end, and the damm stapler is 4" outta my reach..let go start over. I HATE that. I'm either lazier or wiser as I get older, I hate chasing after a tool..(G)Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
