My Makita 12v drill died many months ago (maybe even a couple of years ago?)
As far as I know. The batteries and the charger are still good.
I would be happy to send these to anyone still using the system that would like to have them (I assume it is possible to mail/UPS batteries?).
Alternatively, if anyone has a Makita 12v NiCad drill that still works and they want to sell it cheap….
Thanks.

I wouldn't mind the batteries.
I will also tell you that you can buy a brandy new CPO Makita drill only in a case for about $50 on Amazon. That's what I did when mine broke.
Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Factory-Reconditioned-Makita-Cordless-Driver-Drill-Flashlight/dp/B000I6NNEG/ref=sr_1_41?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1219514246&sr=8-41
That one is a full kit for short money.
Do you want the charger?

No need for the charger. Thanks, though.
Don't want to get a new drill only?
Not particularly.Send me your mailing info.rbeckman1 AT indy.rr.comI'll try and get the batteries in the mail. I warn you I'm a bit of a procrastinator...:)Rich Beckman

My PC 12V is about to die, and I'm looking at the 18.8V Makita. How did your old one hold up, and would you buy another Makita?
Thanks
Kind of difficult to compare one era of tools to another from the same manufacturer.
Up until a couple/few years ago, most of the 12v stuff was made in Japan. Most of what I have as far as 12v Makita tools is from the Japan period. The accessories (flourescent light and chargers) are China.
All of the 18v LXT stuff is now made in China after a short introductory period. Profits have gone up while the retail price has stayed the same.
I don't know if it will hold up as well as the 12v stuff I have.
I know the LiIon batteries are no good if you expect them to work below 40* F, no matter the name on the tool/device. This alone has deterred me from any LiIon stuff.
I was "OK" with the white Makita tools and the MakForce lines being low budget Chinese junk- I had a choice to spend a little more or not. When the LXT line went Chinese and the pricing stayed the same, that was the final nail in that coffin for me.
I would just as soon buy Ryobi now.
Thanks for the heads up...
