Makita 14″ miter saw for sale

jimblodgett | Posted in Reader Classified on September 20, 2004 05:07am

I have a Makita 14″ miter box in good shape I’d like to sell.  Included is a Freud Teflon coated 108 tooth ATB blade, another carbide tipped ATB blade approx 72 tooth that’s great for framing, and the HSS blade that came with the saw when I bought it in the early 80s.

Great saw, gave many years of dependable use, but I recently bought a sliding compound miter saw and would like to pass this miter saw on to someone who will use it.

The spring that opens the saw back up after you cut is tired and doesn’t return the saw to it’s “open” position anymore, but besides that this saw is ready for several more years of daily use.

I think the saw and blades are worth about $200.00.  I even have a miter bench I made for the saw I’ll throw in if you want it.

Western Washington, South Puget Sound.

Thanks – Jim

    Jim,

I suppose that thing is probably to heavy to ship, right? If you think it might be feasible, I would be interested. Have to check the balance of the tool account...

    Let me know.

shipping either ups or fedex ground will not be as terrible as you might imagine.

I bought a slider on clearence a few years ago, shipped it from Houston to KC, loaded the box with a few other things to make it even heavier.... total cost was about 45 bucks to ship it and insure the whole package for about 700 bucks.

and just out of curiousity, what are you asking?

That is odd. I read the post and thought the same thing that he said he figured the blades were worth $200.

Reread the post and there it was plain as day...saw and blades.

        I hate when that happens.

        What day is it anyways?

Going great up here, beats Kansas, but then so do the flaming pits of hell.

Had to take a closer look, I read it as, blades are worth 200 bucks...

Hey you guys, I posted that message last Monday before leaving for work.  When I got home that night my sister had called and I had to fly back to the East coast for a family medical emergency (malignant tumor in a sibling's bowel) and just tonight got home.  Sorry about leaving in a rush like that.

Anyway, Kit, that saw is heavy...I'll weigh it tomorrow, but it's probably close to 100 lbs with carbide blade, certainly that much with all three blades.  UPS to Las Vegas shouldn't be too bad, though.  I'll check it out Monday.  We ship a lot of stuff via UPS and it'll be easy for me to check.

Sorry for the poorly worded asking price.  I'd like to get $200 for everything, but I'd really like to see the saw get used, not sit in a corner of the shop collecting dust for the next year.  Make me an offer.

    Hey Jim,

You know, the more I have thought about this, the more I think I want a more portable saw... Even though the ability to cut bigger stuff in position is appealing, the idea of hauling that monster in and out of the truck isn't. If I had a permanent shop set up, it would be different. Plus, by the time I figger in shipping, I'm almost to the price of a new saw. I've been eyeing that Dewalt 706 for a couple years.

The post you made in another thread about blade sizes has me thinking, too. I already have a few nice 10" blades and 1 nice 12".

I would have emailed this to you directly, but the two messages I sent you last week while you were gone got returned. I hope I caught you before you hauled the thing off to be weighed. All that being said, if you don't have any luck selling it locally, let me know. I'm hoping to move to San Diego this summer and will be looking for a house where I can set up a permanent shop. It might be just the thing...

Hope you didn't waste too much time on me....

    Cheers,  Kit
