Makita 18v cordless sawzall–blade keeps popping out!

Waters | Posted in Tools for Home Building on August 25, 2010 09:19am

The lumberyard is happy to keep replacing my Makita Li ion 18v cordless recip saw–but a new unit does not solve the problem of the blade pulling out of the quick release arbor when you hit nails and stuff…

Makita says it isn’t a problem and that some blades have more paint on them than others..which is ridiculous.

The little tip that engages the hole in the blade is conical so it doesn’t hold the blade soundly.

Any others have this problem and have you fixed it?

I was thinking to sand the paint off a blade to see if it helps…

    Hey Makita!

Just what brand of blades are you expecting me to use? Are you saying that your saw will only work with selected blades?

I think you need to escalate your pesteration of Makita, their statements sound like 'residue of the male bovine'.  Make sure you tell them that you are going to post this all over the internet, etc.

    Recip Saw Blade issue

I am the communications manager at Makita, based in La Mirada just south of Los Angeles. Please call (800)462-5482 and follow the prompts to Technical Support.  If there are further issues, you can contact me direct at [email protected] and I'll investigate it myself.  Thanks!

      thank you wayne

      Hi Wayne,

I appreciate the reply, and that you are paying attn. to us here online.

The salesman at Jerry's home imp ctr in eugene, or called makita cust service while i was standing there with him.  I took apart the 'nose' of the saw while he was on hold and we examined the metal stud that engages the hole in the blade.  The tip of that stud is conical, which, i believe is the problem, allowing the blade to disengage when you hit nails and whatnot when cutting.

When he got a live person, they told us basically that there was nothing wrong with the saw and that some blades have more paint on them than others perhaps causing the problem.  I use milwaukee's "ax" demolition blades.

You can see here in Amazon.com's reviews that other professionals (those not using the saw for nothing more than cutting some branches in the backyard or something...) are having the same problem.

      http://www.amazon.com/Bare-Tool-Makita-BJR182Z-Lithium-Ion-Reciprocating/product-reviews/B002BA5YMG/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

I'd really like to know if there's a fix for this problem.  I have 7 18v li ion Makita tools and they've been fantastic, but for this one problem.  Before Makita, I had all dewalt 18v nicad.  In another bit of trivia, Home Lumber in Whitewater WI, one of Makita's first, if not the first!, importers--right next door to my boyhood home.  Used to ride my gocart around in their parking lot.  My dad bought a 7.6v drill and flashlight setup in the 80's and it was revolutionary.

It's maddening not to be able to use the saw for what should be its daily chore--cutting studs out by the nails...

would be happy to hear from you.

Message me through the site or reply here.

      Pat

Really you should talk to him offline, then post back your results.  I don't know of anyone who would want to deal with a customer service issue on an internet forum!

I sent him personally what i posted here.

I would think the reason he's looking around here is to find issues like this, and show the clientele that he's out there (and in here) taking care of people.

    Resolution

I am informed of a blade clamping issue on saws up to 2008.

My new one is younger and should be good to go.

Thanks much to Wayne from Makita!

    Cheers,

    Pat
