The fence on my Makita 2703 table saw is a pain in the butt!! It is hard to slide across the table and when locked down often is not properly aligned. Has anyone else experienced these problems? Found any good fixes. Figure I’d ask before I go off on my own fix-it disaster plan.
The saw is fairly new and this fence thing is really annoying. Enough so that Im almost tempted to take the saw back.
Thanxs for any help.

I suggest that you dump the fence altogether and get yourself a rousseau table and fence for it

I have the same saw and had the same problem. The rear of the fence extends down and hooks under the rear of the table. Feel the area under the rear of the table where the fence rides/clamps and you will find that it is rough from the casting process. Take your orbital sander and sand this area smooth It is about a 45 deg angle back there. Solved the problem for me!

I've got the Mak 2703 also, and the fence leaves a lot to be desired. It is NOT particularly self-aligning, so it's best to measure a blade tooth at the front and back locations in relation to the fence. It's a pain in the butt. I also found that if you push the 'T' part of the fence toward the rail (away from you) while you are clamping it down, it aligns reasonably square. Damn, you still have to check it, though. All that being said..............Lots of folks have, like Ron said, the Rousseau stand, and it makes a run of the mill portable saw into a great performer with an outstanding fence.
By the way, I beleive that the Rousseau stand is also sold with a Makita sticker on it.
