Hi all, So my apologies for what might be a question that has been covered on these forums already, but when I tried searching the topic, nothing came up to my great surprise. Does anyone else have trouble with the searching of this forum? Feel free to point me towards relevant threads. I am in the market for a new sliding miter saw. I currently have a 12″ dewalt, model previous to the newest. I’m fairly happy with it, but am considering the new makita 10″ LS1016L. I like that the saw is compact and still has excellent compacity, both of those are top priorities for me now. Accuracy (of course), durability and fit and finish are important too. So the makita got a good video review from FHB ( for what that’s worth), and a good review in JLC, I’m just a bit uneasy because I’m heard on about some accuracy issues: “arbor runnout”, loose stops, not able to adjust the saw properly. I’m interested what you folks who own or have used the saw think. Of course, I’d check any saw for accuracy when I get it, and I suppose you can get a dud from any manufacturer. I just don’t what to shell out the money for a new model saw that might have some systemic problems. Thanks in advance for your help (and sorry for what seems to be a long winded post) -Rob

Don't know about the 1016,
Don't know about the 1016, but I've had the 1013 for over ten years and it's still going strong. Great saw for everything from framing to trim.
I just bought the 1016 about a month ago. So far I'm impressed with the fit, finish, accuracy etc. Only thing that took a bit of fiddling with was the feature that lets you move the laser from one side of the blade to the other. Takes a bit of fiddling with to get it straight. Not a big issue though.
How do you know when you need a new saw. As a hobbiest and DIYer, I've had my Makita LS1013 for more than 10 years, do these things wear out?
If it cuts straight and holds its accuracy it may last eternally.

If use is light and abuse is minimal it'll last a long time.
Whatever works for you. I wouldn't think that a DIY guy would need more than one and I'd advise getting a good one and treating it right. It should serve you well for many years.
For a professional carpenter, well, I read here once that a good fisherman has more than one pole. I want to 10" saw (more compact, cheaper blades, and so on) to compliment my 12". Next I have my eye on either a 8 1/2 or 7 1/4 slider ( hitachi or makita)

If they spend lots of time out in the weather the slides will get pitted and rough.
And after a while the hypoid gears can get rough. Mine are just starting to sound a bit funky, so I might open it up for a lube job.
