Just a heads up on a 7+1/4″ makita worm drive at Southerlands for 138$ Plus it’s got a killer looking makita toolbelt thrown in with it. I wish I needed the saw cause the belt looked awfully nice. Dec 30-03

In older homes like these, the main remodeling goal is often a more welcoming, more social, and more functional kitchen.

Clay,
Is that the higher amp model? If it is, then that is a good deal. That saw has the finest motor I've ever used. I love that motor!!
I didn't look real close but as I glanced the model on display looked heavy duty, the cord looked like the skill style heavyduty end off the handle. I'm not super familiar with the Makita WD other than what I've read. But what I was looking at was that tool belt that was really nice. I did look at the mark down tag on it and usually Southerlands has a date on the bottom of it that shows the experation of the sale. It was showing something like 10-29-03, but it appeared to be so prominent that it was still in effect.
I'm not sure about the belt price if you were to buy it seperate but it looks like a 100$ belt?or +$
But hey youknow I've got a wormdrive,3 side winders, a cordless so I don't think I can go for it.

FYI...the Makita is not a true "worm drive saw" with worm gearing...it
is a hypoid gear set-up that can be compared to more of what a right
angle grinder uses. The torque power to the blade is not as effective
as a true worm gear. Originally Makita had numerous complaints with
their saw because of the " torque steer" their gearing produced...I understand
the most recent models are better, but the inherent design will always
produce that initial twist...worm drives are still the best and most efficent
saws in the rear handle design.
I bought it last summer and love it. It is heavy and does have some torqueover on initial trigger pull, just be prepared. After that it seems to run straight as an arrow. But then I have never used any of the other two/three worms that are always touted.
I got the belt and it is a nice one, just a little large for me. I have not used it and had thought about selling it. (Besides all my DeWalt stuff might revolt.) I have seen a bunch of them on ebay in the $60 range.
