Marine grade plywood for T1-11 style siding
Hi all,
I’m considering using marine grade plywood for exterior siding on a small mid-century cabin build in Wisconsin. I like the overall appearance of T1-11 for the era and overall appearance we are looking to achieve, but what I have been able to find is all rough sawn. I would plan to use a track saw to cut grooves into the exterior facing side of the sheathing and then paint all sides including edges with a latex exterior wood primer and paint. My question is, will cutting grooves into the marine grade plywood be problematic and defeat the purpose of using marine grade plywood?
The wall assembly would be 2×6, with OSB sheathing, Tyvek and Cor-A-Vent rain screen behind the marine grade plywood exterior sheathing.

In my humble opinion cutting groves sounds like a lot of work for a mediocre siding result. Wisconsin has harsh winters, I just imagine water working its way in between the layers of plywood and delaminating it.
Hardiboard comes in 4x8 sheets. I’d consider a board and batten pattern over using plywood.
Thank you for your input! Delaminating is one of my main concerns, the amount of work was a close second!
How about LP SmartSide in 4x8 sheets? It's about $45 per sheet "ready to paint", and you can get LP SmartSide products pre-painted as well.
I briefly looked at LP SmartSide and given the affordable cost I definitely need to look into it further. Thank you for your suggestion!
