It’s been a while since I have been on….We have finally decided to scrap trying to finish our windows ourselves on our remote cottage build and hire a pro to spray them.
I have talked with two painters (both with excellent reputations & references) and they have basically the same process, but use different finishing products. We are just going with a natural clear finish on the pine interior
One guy – Sands, uses a vinyl sealer, then 2 coats of 10 degree, pre cat lacquer with UV, my choice satin or flat finish
#2 guy, sands, uses a quick dry sanding sealer, then 2 coats oil satin varnish, no UV. He will use water based varnish if I really want, once I said I am concerned with yellowing. Mellowing of the wood is fine, I just don’t want to end up with mustard colored wood down the road.
The first guys way I think is better, but he is a bit reluctant to take the job on – sounds like he would be doing a favour for the interior decorator who referred me. The # 2 guy, is keener for the work.
Is one method better than the other? We are south face, so to me UV is an issue to me.
