I am going to replace the 50 year old combed cedar shingles with new siding. I have read some information online about pending litigation on GP’s and Weyerhouser’s siding products. I live in San Diego and my house eaves offer minimal overhang. Any suggestions, warnings, ideas, or success/horror stories would be appreciated. Thanks.

With all that has happened with the Masonite sidings, I wouldn't touch them with a 20 foot pole. I live in Central Florida where the summer rains and high humidity present a maintenance nightmare what with trying to keep siding materials such as masonite painted and sealed against moisture intrusion. The best product for siding replacement is either HardiePlank or HardiePanel both from the James Hardie Company. They are a cement based product with a 50 year transferrable warrantee against water, termites, etc. They install well, take paint very well and make a great looking application. Check the Hardie Website for installation hints and details. Good luck.

Here in the midwest, I wouldn't recommend masonite for anything that is to be used on the exterior, especially siding.
