All,
Looking for a general rate per hour or cost per sq. ft for bricking the exterior of a house, if it is costed that way.
Thanks,
dlb

Engineered-stone shower panels are waterproof, but proper installation relies on tight seams and silicone sealing.

here it $1.50 a brick
Wanna hear something strange? When I started into construction in Florida in about 1970, the rate was nine or ten cents a brickThe price for framing a house was just going up to two dollars a foot. From what I hear, there are a lot of p;lalces where the price for framing is still only two bucks a foot
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
No kidding. When I started my business back in 1987 I was getting 30 per square labor for roofing. In the year 2000 I was still bidding some jobs at 30 per square labor and not getting them. Needless to say I branched out and put roofing exclusively in the past.
Can you thank the open border leftist Democrats for that?
Nought your head up and down.
Unbeleivable! just unbelievable!
Who do you think is wining those bids for sub $30? Unemployed college professors, you suppose?
Would need to know some more specifications regarding the brickwork (i.e. bond, opening details if any, etc.) and can I dare say that the cost of brickwork here in the NY CT region is going to be very different than the rate in GA.

On the opposite end of the spectrum from Brownbagg's $1.50/brick, here in NJ, brick veneer is in the $34-42/SF range for union installations. As you can see, the info you're going to get here will be completely useless unless you provide a LOT more detail.
Bob
Is the $34-42 labor & material?

Is the $34-42 labor & material?
Yes. So that works out to somewhere around $5-6/brick. If you take out the brick itself at anywhere from $600-1200/thousand, and then take out the mortar, ties, weeps, etc., you're still in the $3-5/brick range, labor only.
Bob
Labor only, basic work $1/brick, $2/block(8x8x16). NE Ohio
when I built three years ago it for block. a dollar a block, today its four dollar a block. That regular CMU
I've gotten several recent estimates to install brick veneer. They've ranged from $400-650 per thousand for residential installations. Most masons here in SC charge "per thousand bricks laid". That's labor only of course. Detail work is typically charged by the job. Commercial and industrial jobs typically involve bidding processes and governmental oversight, so I suspect that politics inevitably determine those rates.New knowledge is priceless.
Used knowledge is even more valuable.
WOW! Must be due to the storm... I'm surprised we have any bricklayers left around here. I woulda thought they would all go to Louisiana.
If I had my druthers I would be in Seattle, but I can't move these little snot suckers around the country just as yet. My Prices around here are 375.00 per thousand labor only, when I have a job in Roanoke Va. my prices go up to what the prevailing rate is 40 miles away. wich is 550.00 per thousand labor only. The prices are all over the place at this time of year the masonry distributers in your area usally can hit the commen price what masons are charging where you live.
From my bricklayer's price list:
Brick veneer, regular v joint: $375/1000
Foundation brick veneer: $275/1000
Block, 4:, 6", 8": $1.25/ea
Block, 10" $1.35/ea
Block, 12" $1.50/ea
Fill block: $.50/ea
These prices are labor only. The price list is actually 3 pages long. All kinds of extras. Stuff like different bonds, different joints, soldi blocks, rowlocks, set up fees for small jobs & scaffold work, quoins, keystones, etc, etc, etc.
I'm in central NC. I'd expect similar prices in GA unless it's metro Atlanta.
Our mason charges $750/1,000 bricks and $1.75 for 4-8" block, $2.75 for 10-12" block. Parging block is $.35/SF for under 5' and $.45 for over 5'.

I'm thinking that the prices you are paying are heavily influenced by the DC metro area prices. As a matter of fact, I guess that these days Fredricksburg is part of the DC metro area? BTW - I'm from Northern VA.
As we see though, prices are all over the map.
I guessing Bob's price might be near the top - being that he is in the big city.

Fredericksburg is just on the cusp. Most of our customers are professionals that commute up to DC or NOVA.The sub in question is from about a half hour south of us, still somewhat in the country. I'm surprised that your rates are that much lower than us. I would not have been surprised at $600 or $650 per K., but you get it really cheap. Are your subs insured? Do they speak English? Finally, what is the difference between brick veneer and foundation veneer?
Jon Blakemore RappahannockINC.com Fredericksburg, VA
Yes they are insured and actually are incorporated. We require $1 mil general liability and $1/2 mil workers comp - I think it is. I cannot hire anyone who does not have the proper paperwork. The masons speak some english - I speak some Spanish. The crewleaders, owners and owners wives speak fluent english - actually the 2 women in the office are white... These are who I deal with on all "business" matters. They do great work. I know other bricklayers too with similar prices, but I will continue to give the aforementioned company my business as long as things go as they are. If for example, if I need a crawl space foundation, they show up with at least a dozen masons and helpers and they don't mind much if I micro-manage them - as I see necessary. The only thing that gets to be a drag is sometimes they work very long hours. They probably have 50 field workers working for them. I have to hold up my end of the deal which is to insure that all materials are on site so that they are not held up.
>> what is the difference between brick veneer and foundation veneer << Foundation veneer is installed in conjunction with block to build a crawlspaces or installed on brick ledges of concrete basement foundations. Foundation veneer generally starts below grade and comes up to just below the first floor level. Regular brick veneer is applied to the sidewall framing of a house with brick ties. Hope that is clear, sorry it wasn't the first time.
The reason I ask about the difference is the price break is pretty good. I don't know if I posted this, but our mason charges $700/k for <5' and adds $50/k for >5'. You get about 25% off for the low stuff, that's pretty nice.
