Materials For Exterior Trim, Cant Find Wide Enough
We have exterior columns needing repair / replacement. The project is currently stalled because the neither of the two vendors working on an estimate can source the materials.
The video can explain the details but basically I want to replace the crappy particle board with something more weather resistant than wood. Another reason to avoid wood, is the columns are being consistently visited by a woodpecker who does an amazing amount of damage in a small time.
I was provided a link to James Hardie products via Home Depot, but nothing offered online is wide enough for the columns.

Home Depot link to the kind of materials that might work, but not wide enough

Check out Azek. It is a PVC I have used for exterior trim with excellent results. The corner moldings would have to be custom made but for joining together you can use PVC cement. You can saw, it drill it, use a planer to slim it, route it to add profiles, etc.
Oh, I am a satified user, and not a vendor trying to sell my product
Thank You!! It looks like they sell 4 x 8 sheets. I think that will work, or some combination of the narrower PVC and the corner products. I will contact Azek on monday with some questions to help me sort the best approach.
You can get 4x8 sheets of hardi board. It's the same thickness just like the siding just a big sheet. Wrap the column with that and use an outside corner piece to.
Check out brands like Azek or Trex, which offer wider boards and trims suitable for exterior use. These can usually be found at specialty lumber yards or ordered through Home Depot or Lowe's.
