I can’t count anymore, the number of times I have seen products advertised, in fine homebuilding, and asked for them by name. Nobody knows what i am talking about. they think I am an immigrant or something. And then a year and a half later they are on display. I guess says somthing about building in my area. Or, maybe you all order on line or from a catalog.
My question: Where do you get thosespecialty Items ? Online? do you get them thru the mail? Or do you Order them thru your Local lumber yard?
The reason I ask this Question is: I feel reluctant to try and sell a customer somthing. I would like. Because it isn’t readily available. And that plain sucks. It always costs to much to get, and it takes to much time to deal with the ordering. It will always be easier to use whats available.
an example : Timbertech (never used it) now I see it at the lumber yard.
Trapese deck screws, which are finally available at HomeDEpot
Doors: with outside, milled oak raised panel / Inside composite MDF
Etc.

Know just how you feel. I wanted to do something distinctive, yet still very high quality, to allow light through a porch roof I was adding. The customer wanted the roof over the back deck, and it would also block the light from the kitchen windows.
Rather than just a few run-of-the-mill skylights, I wanted to put in a 4X8 foot panel of triple-wall polycarbonate. That's the stuff that you can build greenhouses from. Properly supported, this stuff will carry a 40PSF load or greater.
But if you want to buy just one 4X8 foot sheet, you'll pay HUGE bucks (above $500, not including the trim or flashing), wait longer than you're accustomed to, and probably still have trouble with the inspectors.
[Edited to include] Oh well, I guess my idea was not vast enough, and we all know that.........
Vast projects should not be founded on half vast ideas.

Would you believe I had to start looking in other towns for friggin flashing? You know, insert window, flash base, sides, head . . . with all these homes going up, nobody sells it here? Whazzup with that. And I wonder why I'm always looking at somebody elses leaking doors.
Maybe the bright side is if you're the only idiot that figures out how to procure the stuff, you're a step ahead of the game compared to someone else. Stocks gotta go up sometime when people figure out you're the only guy with the goods.

If you're talking metal flashing buy a brake you can make your own, if you're talking peel&stick ice & watershield cut into strips works fine.
