I am about to replace a 2nd story deck over a living area and want to maximize the amount of sunlight entering the windows of the living area below. Does anyone have suggestions on ways to build the deck or know of transparent decking materials that would permit sunlight to penetrate to the windows beneath the deck.

Could you leave open wells, like basement window wells? Maybe with a curb around them to keep people from stepping in?
