Greetings to all:
At this point, I don’t have a question but I do need some advice. I have a client and we are redesigning her kitchen. I am trying to convince her to properly ventilate the new range hood but for budget purposes she is shying away from running ductwork and a fan. On more than one occasion, she has mentioned using a useless range hood because, ” that is what everyone does anyway.” I am writing for feedback and possibly some anecdotes I can pass on. Thanks,
Almost thoroughly exhausted,

Ask her if she would also like to remove the chimney and have the fireplace and furnance vent into the living room. What, she will never burn anything in her dream kitchen? A real vent also opens up the possibility of some type of indoor grill, without a real vent no way
so the New Range Hood sucks grease laden air up and puts it, in the attic I guess. This means that over time the grease builds up and up and up.
I guess now would be the time to mention how hard it is to put out grease fires.
or now might be the time to talk about ants, or rats, or racoons, or...... gee that list could actually go on for a while.
you could also talk about how the grease will degrade the insulation rapidly, equalling higher heating/cooling bills.
if the grease got throught the insulation it might have an affect on the sheetrock and soften it, creating cracks or staining the paint.
for budget purposes it has to be cheaper to run some ductwork than deal with any/all of the above.
good luck
