I have to build cabinets for a basement in a new houses basement. The owner wants melimine but I dont want to use partical board or mdf covered with it because of the damp. I was thinking of using ply and painting with melimine paint has anyone used this paint and what are the resulting finish like?
Thanks for the help.

I love Melamine paint. I use it for my house trim on that prefab pressed cardboard like stuff. It is a great durable paint. I have used it for years on even desk tops and it has stood up to some really harsh situations.
I agree with you on the pressboard in the basement but I also wonder if the owners should not be tackling the moisture problem FIRST before you put anything down there. Maybe a dehumidifier????
Anyways I would also suggest you look to maybe using exterior plywood instead if there is a bit moisture problem.
IMHO anyways

*Excellent product - low lustre and really durable...roll it on in thin coats with a high density foam roller allowing a 24-hour dry time between coats. Think you'll be really pleased. In Toronto, Pintar manufactures the high density foam rollers - they are 4 inches with both ends rounded ...no brush marks, no lap marks...just a picture perfect finish. Also we can get a latex melamine here (Para manufactures it)...never tried the latex product so can't comment. I hear it stands up well (although it really hasn't been around long enough to pass the test of time) and I wonder if it would have the same great finish. Maybe someone else would know.Luck to you!Linda
