Hello, I’m thinking of building a metal gate with vertical wood panels based on the attached sketch. This is my first time building one. I’m have a few questions. Should I use 14g or 16g posts? How deep should I dig the post and how much cement should I use? I live where there is not freezing. Left post will be attached to the house. Should I use two or four hinges on the door. Do you have recommended hinges? Should I use 14g on the hinge side of the door? I want to use a regular door handle and dead bolt on the gate. Thanks.

You should use at least .120” posts. 14 or16 gauge are basically sheet metal. If you’re using 2” posts set a sleeve of galvanized metal big enough to fit the post 2.5’ in the ground. If your soil is solid a post hole size hole with concrete should be fine. Slide the posts all the way into the sleeve. Caulk or weld the post to the sleeve. I don’t like welding galvanized material and I was applying a patina that didn’t require it on a recent project. I used a 2 weld on barrel hinges without any leaves. They turn on a single ball bearing and have a zerk for grease
