Metal Roof Ridge Cap overlap problems
I’ve got a 9 year old metal roof that’s leaking and now I’ve discoverd quite a bit of rotten wood. The problem I believe is because of an impoperly installed ridge cap. My ridge cap has maybe a 1/2″ overlap, no rivets or sealant. And in a lot of instances the the overlapped seams don’t lay flat and leave a 1/4″ space.
What is the proper installation method for the ridge cap overlaps?
I’ve put in a call to the original roofer but in looking at my contract it says 2 year workmanship warranty. So do I have any recourse? Thanks for any info.
THIS PICTURE IS NOT OF MY ROOF!!! Just one I found online that shows what I”m talking about.

I believe the minimun overlap is 3 inches. After 9 years I doubt the roofer will help but it can't hurt to ask. If it was my house i"d probably reset the cap witha proper overlap, add a new pice to fill in the gap that will leave and ignore the rotten wood as long as it didn't comprise the house.
mlawrence,
Get the same profile and cut some 1 foot sections to overlay the laps. Use either Lexel or seam tape between the two.
