hi,
i’m looking to get a metal stair railing made, but don’t know how to go about finding someone to do the work. my circle of friends are all woodworkers. any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. we live in the area east of the san francisco bay.

I know the person you seek- fine metalwork, experience with stairs. Used to be (ok, still is) a great japanese- style carpenter, now he does more with steel.

I've had all sorts of railings done by Railmakers over in Alameda. Guy named Jerry is who I remember most. While you're over there you can stop in at the Japan Woodworker store.
With all the ex-con Oakland Raider fans, and Hell's Angels, you should have no problem finding a metalworker in the east bay.
