Methods for dropping attic space
I am currently building a house with scissor trusses, 10 in 12 top cord, 7 in 12 bottom cord. Plan was to spray 7″ Corebond directly to Underside of sheathing. Bottom cord to be T+G’ed. Problem is that distance from top of top cord to bottem of bottom cord at apex is 60 inches. Max. allowable space in this senario would be 42-43 inches. I am looking for various suggestions on how to avoid this code issue and still wind-up with a superinsulated non-vented roof.

where does the " maximum allowable space " come from...is that part of the code ?
is it a firecode issue ?
does Corebond have a high flame spread rating?..
maybe you could rethink it and just blow the whole thing with dens-pak cells
me.. i'd vent the roof.. and put in 24" of cells...

Not sure where this detail comes from. I can't find it in the'03 IRC. I was given the measure of 36" by Corebond, in confirmation of what I was told by another builder and an architect friend. I believe it is a fire issue. I haven't spoken with my inspector yet as I was waiting for a whole list of rough inspects to give one time instead of calling inspects one at a time.
Never heard of that one. I have had the local Corbond guys do an unvented attic space that was probably five feet or so.

I don't know what to say. Corbond definitely recomends against venting. Something about requiring access to attic space if the space is too large.
So let'm in.
Then lock 'em up there until the job is done.

Client is concerned about any noises or smells eminating from the aforementioned "confined" inspector.
I guess the spec comes from Corbond. They don't want too much air space between the insulation and the ceiling below. Possibility of combustion from superheated air???
